Brighton Rock... the Remake

It seems that the popularity of scooters and their riders is set to increase in 2010 beyond appearances in TV adverts and YouTube videos, as a new major production of delves into our cultural history.

A new British made film called Brighton Rock, staring Dame Helen Mirrem has been shot and is due for release this year. The six million pound film also stars Pete Postlethwaite (Chalky from Quadrophenia), alongside Sam Riley, who will take the central role of Pinkie Brown.

The film is based on Graham Greene’s 1938

novel of the same name which was first

adapted for the screen in 1947, under the

direction of John Boulting, with a screenplay

by Greene himself and Terence Rattigan.

The new version is to be based on the novel,

rather than the previous screenplay, with one

major difference, the action will take place in

the 1964 instead of the novel’s 30’s setting.

Any novel or film set in 64 that doesn’t include

classic Lambrettas,Vespas and Mods & Rockers

cannot be worth its while, Rowan Joffe’s new

film certainly does and is.

Member’s or the Big 7 Scooter Club along with

many other scooterists from all over the country headed for Eastbourne last October to appear in three days of Mods and Rocker action, as the cameras rolled on.

Although Brighton Rock is primarily is a Gangster story, it is still likely to be the biggest scooter related production since Quadrophenia and is certain to give the scootering scene a new input of young blood.

There is no release date for the film as yet but we will inform you on this page as soon as we know, until then check out our own footage of the Brighton Rock filming below along with some photos taken by Big 7 Members.
